Thank you to the Heart to Heart Volunteers who visited the home of Chi Fan for Charity 2013 beneficiary Li Xiaona in Anhui this June. Li Xiaona was born in January 2012 in Anhui. Her family including her uneducated parents and deaf sister’s family household income was less than 5,000 RMB. Li Xiaona was diagnosed with CHD when she was hospitalized with an pneumonia and would have not been able to have the surgery without our support.
On a recent Heart to Heart field trip we were fortunate enough to see not only Li Xiaona, but her parents and older sister as well. We were happy to find that Li Xiaona was in good health. She has grown significantly and gained a lot of weight since we first met her in 2013. Her parents are very pleased with her progress and the fact that she is no longer taking medicine. Her mother stays at home with her since she is still too young to start school.
Previously, the family had lived in the countryside, but they recently moved into town so that Li Xiaona’s older sister could go to a school that accommodates her deafness. She appears to be doing well in the school—while she now has a hearing aid, she can say basic words and has grasped some sign language. Her father has gotten a job in the city so that paying tuition for her is conceivable. Although he has a stable income, the family is living in a rented metal room – very similar to what construction workers often live in. There is no kitchen, bathroom, etc. available to them—just one room. We are hoping living conditions will improve over time now that the father has a job, but the circumstances are definitely dire at the moment.
Heart to Heart presented Li Xiaona and her sister with some gifts and a hong bao to hopefully help improve their living conditions. The family is extremely grateful for both the surgery and the opportunity to begin a new life. A huge thank you to everyone who supported Chi Fan for Charity and for making all this possible for Li Xiaona and her family! Please see the previous press release here.
