Alistair Skinner joined the Financial Services industry in 1982 and in his 18 years with the one company spent 8 years as a successful advisor before being approached to become a Development Manager, effectively teaching advisors how to advise and was the author of company-wide training material in the business and investment secs for over 2,000 advisors. Additionally, he coached over 450 advisers towards gaining their professional qualifications.
In Autumn of 2000, Alistair moved to join Austen Morris Associates in Shanghai and with over 30 years experience ranks as one of, if not the, most experienced advisors in Asia.
He specializes in one thing – finding out the true needs of his prospective clients and then sourcing or designing a programme or programmes to satisfy those needs to the best benefit of that client.
Outside work Alistair is an accomplished sailor and has sailed on waters as diverse as the West of Scotland to Eastern Australia and from the Mediterranean to the Baltic – almost as many places as he has nationalities amongst his clientele. Finding no such activity on his arrival he founded the first member’s run sailing club in China and brought the first privately owned racing yacht to the country since the 1940s which has since been joined by a second.
His wife Li Li, who he unsurprisingly met at a Boat Show in the city, shares his passion and between them, they are involved in the sport at all levels from the Volvo Ocean Race to running a local annual Charity regatta “Sailing for Kids” which benefits less fortunate children in China.
Alistair is an offshore sailor at the weekend perhaps, but serious International adviser during the week.
