AMA Private Client Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai

On the evening of Wednesday 13th of March 2019, Austen Morris Associates Senior Partner Jon Holand had the pleasure to host another world-class Private Client Dinner, this time at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund.

Located at the heart of the celebrated Shanghai Bund, a waterfront boulevard that runs alongside the Huangpu River and one of the most photographed scenes of the city, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund mixes the history and culture of the surrounding district with a taste for 21st-century sophistication.

The evening started in the Long Bar, once celebrated for having the longest bar top in the Far East, offering 110 feet of fine raw mahogany has been flawlessly restored to the former glory of its 1911 Shanghai Club past. Our clients and guests enjoyed a sparkling reception whilst taking in the picturesque surroundings of the bar and views of the Bund.

Following the reception, our clients and guests were guided to Salon De Ville; the venue is typically used for afternoon tea and was masterfully transformed into a private dining room for our guests to enjoy a five-course culinary experience Pelhams, the signature restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria. Once seated, Senior Partner Jon Holand welcomed clients, guests, Managing Senior Partner James Colclough, his wife Coco Colclough and Frank Cartwright from API Global (AMA property partner). Jon spoke briefly about how he enjoyed hosting the AMA `Private Client Dinner’s and especially enjoying the chance to mingle with clients in a social surrounding over a nice meal.

The menu was perfectly crafted by the Executive Chef and paired with specially selected fine wines. To start was an Amuse Bouche to tantalize the taste buds, paired with Charles de Fere Reserve, Sparkling wine, followed by the Duck Foie Gras, paired with a Banfi Le Rime, Chardonnay. The soup course was an outstanding Green Pea Soup with a perfectly poached egg. Service was paused for a brief presentation from Frank Cartwright at API Global. He introduced the latest UK property offerings focusing on the Northern Powerhouse of Manchester, Birmingham, and Liverpool. The standout course was the main, a succulent Australian Beef Tenderloin served with Seasonal Vegetables and a Caramel Veal Jus, to perfectly complement the meal a Maverick Twins Shiraz, from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Our guests enjoyed a delicate dessert, Floating Island Pink Praline, with Vanilla Sauce and Grapefruit Sorbet to end the meal.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening, with compliments to both the venue and the entire F&B team that executed a flawless service.

We look forward to hosting many more Private Client Dinners soon.
