Austen Morris Associates and Senior Partners Wade Dawson and Erwin Verschueren, Senior Regional Associate Bill Longstreet hosted over 100 guests on March 5th for an Hewitson Wine Makers Private Client Dinner in association with Premier Cru Wine Investments and The Wine Republic.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous menu courtesy of Brian McKenna and his team at ROOM Beijing with wine pairings from Hewitson wines. Speakers of the evening included Chris Hutchings and Gavin Saffer of Premier Cru Fine Wine Investments who presented the latest on wine investment opportunities available. Premier Cru was founded in 1992 and is a family run company. They are experts in wine investments and are able to offer tax-free investment services in fine wines to purchase, the storage management and the eventual sale of your high growth Bordeaux Fine Wine Investment Portfolio.
In addition, Dean Hewitson, owner and winemaker of Hewitson wines which are distributed in China by The Wine Republic also spoke about the wines that have been paired with the menu. Dean is a 30 year veteran of the Australian wine industry, regularly recognized in winemaker of the year awards and most recently praised for producing “Australia’s Best Red Blend” and a “National Treasure” for his Private Reserve and Old Garden Mouvedre respectively (The Age Good Wine Guide, 2010).
Brian McKenna and his team created a culinary extraordinaire starting with Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, Tuna Tartar with marinated avocado, crisp potatoes and watermelon salad with marinated feta cheese. This was followed by grilled asparagus, crisp salmon, and grilled tuna steak. Winemaker and Host Hewitson paired his ‘Gun Metal’ Riesling 2010 -Eden Valley, South Australia and Mount Langi Riesling 2005 -The Grampians, Victoria, Australia.
The following course included braised short rib, whole roasted baby chicken glazed whisky and pot roasted black cod. This was paired with Parker Estate ‘Terra Rossa’ Merlot 2002 & 2006 -Coonawarra, South Australia and Martinborough Vineyard ‘Te Terra’ Pinot Noir 2006 & 2009 -Martinborough, New Zealand.The evening finished off with the infamous Brian McKenna chocolate “BOMB” and “hard boiled” lemongrass panna cotta paired with Mount Langi ‘The Gap’ Passito Riesling 2007 -The Grampians, Victoria, Australia.
