Austen Morris Associates, supported the 11th Annual Charity Carnival, “Love Without Boundaries“ event held last November 10, 2012 at the Millennium Hongqiao Hotel Shanghai. Beacon of Love’s annual charity event raised a total cash donation of 1,650,990 RMB a big portion of these funds came from Chi Fan for Charities fundraising efforts! This amount helped make a difference to 36 children living with congenital heart disease in 2012.
The Beacon of Love Foundation was founded with a mission to help save lives through surgery and to promote public awareness of Congenital Heart Disease. By raising funds for children suffering from this heart disease, they help to make the lives of these delicate personalities healthier and brighter.
This past Saturday, Austen Morris was invited to join one of the three beneficiaries, Beacon of Love, to part take in the Love Without Borders Luncheon. Members of the Foundation warmly greeted Austen Morris Associates and the 36 children and their families to a hearty dim sum meal. This allowed Austen Morris Associate employees to meet and personally connect with the families and the children that benefited from the proceeds of Chi Fan for Charity. With kids running about in the background, each family took turns to express their gratitude and share their story. A truly humbling afternoon commenced, as tears were shared between beneficiaries and donors. Many families expressed that their child had been exceptionally shy and fearful prior to the surgery, however post surgery as their health returned their true personalities were able to surface. As a family, they were able to experience happier and healthy days. The closing remarks by a representative of Shanghai Children’s Health Foundation left us feeling grateful for our efforts:
“By helping a child, you help a family. By helping a family, you help a society. By helping a society, you have helped mankind.”
By helping these youngsters we have assisted them in living normal healthy lives, and yet this experience has also given them hope for the future and illustrated that life has countless possibilities.
