Chi Fan for Charity organised by Austen Morris Associate Shanghai 2013 Update
On Saturday, November 9th 2013, in Shanghai, Chi Fan for Charity, organised by Austen Morris Associates, celebrated its 3rd annual party, the largest China food and beverage event to benefit charity. Fifty-seven upmarket restaurants donated meals to over 550 dining guests raising 400,000+ RMB. The After party included more than 200 sponsors and hosted an open bar in the Grand Atrium at Bund 22. Hosts and guests included movers and shakers from across the globe. The evening’s local beneficiaries, Heart to Heart Shanghai, The Renewal Center and Home Sweet Home celebrated alongside guests while representing their worthy causes. Over 7,000 supporters voted for this year’s three beneficiaries.
Starting in Beijing in 2009 and coming to Shanghai in 2011, Chi Fan for Charity has grown immensely every year and has become an extremely influential charity event among our international communities here in China, or deserving charities since its beginning in 2009. With the especially rapid success and enthusiastic involvement from our annual Shanghai event, we are proud to announce the first Chi Fan for Charity Hong Kong this year as well! To date, Chi Fan for Charity in Beijing and Shanghai have raised a combined 2.7 million RMB for 16 diverse charities and supported Hong Kong’s inaugural event on November 16th.
With a range of meals and price points from 500 RMB family-style tapas to 1500 RMB six-course steak dinners, young professionals to well-established directors alike ate out and joined together at the After party. The After party’s open bar, served by some of Shanghai’s top mixologists, included free-flow beer, wine, cocktails and shots. Guests danced the night away to live music, while taking photo booth snapshots and savoring desserts. Additional fundraising included luxury transportation to and from the event, 11 silent auction packages, and hundreds of raffle prizes, all of which were donated to the cause. Many hosts and sponsors are clients of Austen Morris Associates. Rounding the corner for twenty successful years in Shanghai, Austen Morris Associates has made it a priority to embed this corporate social responsibly program into its sustainable business practice.

Chi Fan for Charity Shanghai 2012 – Results and Beneficiaries
Last year’s event event was a huge success and with the help of 55 resturants, 55 hosts, over 550 guests, over 100 sponsors, and Ello Amici’s, we were able to raise over 470,000 RMB for our three charities. Within the four years that Austen Morris Associates has been involved with Chi Fan, we have helped to raise over 1,870,000RMB for charities and community outreach programs. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and made a difference in peoples’ lives!
On behalf of Austen Morris Associates, we would once again like to thank and congratulate all of our sponsors, restaurants, hosts, the media, volunteers and the entire Shanghai community for their contribution to making a difference in peoples’ lives! We would like to share with you how these funds have benefited our community.
Heart to Heart Shanghai – Heart Surgeries for Children with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD)
On Tuesday, January 29th Austen Morris Associates visited Heart to Heart Shanghai’s Yodak Hospital located in Shanghai Puxi to meet the six sponsored children from the funds raised. CHD is a defect in structure of the heart vessels which is present at birth and a leading cause of birth defects associated with childhood illness and death. Many of these children suffered from shortness of breath, heart murmurs, and also faced the risk of underdeveloped limbs and muscles. Baoji Xinxing – Street Children Care Center Sponsorship
In December and January a portion of the proceeds donated to Xinxing through Chi Fan for Charity have allowed Xinxing to work with nearly 100 underprivileged children. They have organised five outreach programs, which include: Medical Care, Psychological Support, Education and Leadership, Social Outings, Social Investigation, and Early Intervention. Xinxing’s mission is to help street children and disadvantaged youth in Baoji regain their fundamental rights for survival, development, and education by providing them with immediate assistance and support. The cases managed in ranged from children that suffered from epilepsy, to muscle atrophy to skin disease. The stories of these small brave souls illustrate that physical size has no correlation to courage. We will keep you updated with the results of the funds in the coming months. Beacon of Love – Heart Surgeries for Children to Strengthen their Family
On Saturday, March 23rd, Austen Morris Associates was invited to join Beacon of Love to take part in their Love Without Borders Luncheon. Members of the Foundation warmly greeted Austen Morris Associates and the 36 children and their families to a hearty dim sum meal. This allowed Austen Morris Associates employees to meet and personally connect with the families and children that benefited from the proceeds of Chi Fan for Charity. With kids running about in the background, each family took turns to express their gratitude for the donation of their child’s heart surgery and share their moving story. The closing remarks by a representative of Shanghai Children’s Health Foundation left us feeling grateful for our efforts: “By helping a child, you help a family. By helping a family, you help a society. By helping a society, you have helped mankind.” To view the photo gallery and read more about how the lives of these children have changed click here.
Mark your diaries for November 9th 2013 for Shanghai’s annual event and start spreading the word to get everyone involved! This is one event you won’t want to miss.
