Austen Morris Associates visits YODAK Hospital to meet the 20th Anniversary Beneficiaries 165 120 AMA Team

On July 22nd, Austen Morris Associates accompanied Heart to Heart Shanghai’s Sponsorship Director and client of Austen Morris Associates Lenel Roux, to Yodak Hospital. The funds donated from the May 24th Austen Morris Associates 20th Anniversary event which was an evening of history, charity and fun was shared with clients, partners, charity beneficiaries, Chi Fan for Charity hosts and long-term Austen Morris Associates supporters was allocated to two children in need. The donation of over 30,000 RMB contributed towards two life changing heart surgeries. Austen Morris Associates and Chi Fan for Charity have now been supporting Heart to Heart for 4 years. During this time we have donated funds for life changing heart procedures for 16 Chinese children.
The Austen Morris Associates team had the opportunity to spend time with children who have either already undergone heart surgeries or are still waiting to do so. Guests included Managing Senior Partner James Colclough, Operations Manager Matthew Arnold, and Marketing Executive Connie Li. For this specific donation Austen Morris was able to support the annual Tibetan Project. The children, varying from ages 5-14, reside in rural areas of Tibet and have travelled a great distance to receive the donated surgeries for their heart conditions. It was a wonderful experience for both the children and volunteers, as the volunteers bestowed gift-bags filled with coloring books, various clothing accessories, and fruit to the children while, they, in turn, were rewarded with smiles and giggles that resonated throughout the hospital room. The children’s clear enthusiasm displayed their incredibly high spirits, despite their situation. The experience truly reflected Heart to Heart’s mission—to heal and better the lives of these children.
Cuo Zhuo is a fourteen year old girl from A Ru Village, Dong Ru Town, Ri Tu County, A Li Dist, Tibet who was diagnosed with CHD in 2014. There are nine people in her family including her grandparents, her parents, and four older siblings. We were lucky enough to meet her father who had traveled to Shanghai to accompany her for her surgery. Her parents are illiterate and unhealthy as a result of years of hard work as herdsman. Cuo Zhou had received her surgery and had recovered so she was happily running around the hospital when we arrived to meet her.
The volunteers were especially excited to see Ke Zihan, a 10-month year old baby girl who had arrived to the hospital only a day before. Born in Hubei, Ke Zihan was diagnosed with CHD in a local hospital and then her diagnosis was confirmed by a hospital in Shiyan City. Ke Zihan currently lives with her parents, grandparents, and her 8 year old sister. Her grandfather has hypertension and her grandmother is unhealthy. Because of this, the family needs medicine often and can only take care of themselves. Her entire family lives on her father’s income. While he is a carpenter and works on a construction site in the city, his job is not stable. Ke Zihan’s mother is mentally-disabled. Because she is not able to work, she stays at home taking care of the children. Her father owes RMB 50,000 from an accident so now they have no money for her surgery. The money being used for her surgery is part of the donation from the Anniversary Charity Gala.
