The Northeast China chapter hosted a very successful Annual Charity Golf Tournament on September 15, sponsored by Austen Morris Associates to benefit the Hope Project in Dalian. 70 players and over 130 people traveled all the way from Portugal, Shanghai, Shenyang and other outskirts of Northern China to be involved in the tournament and offer donations to charity. The event was held at the prestigious Dalian Golden Pebble Beach Golf Course, famous for its beautiful layout and stunning ocean view. Players teed off at noon and played an 18-hole round of golf, while enjoying refreshments delivered by volunteers.
After an exciting game, the participants and their families gathered for a banquet where representatives of the Hope Project, a program of China Youth Development Foundation, made a presentation on the Dalian Bai Nian Vocational School—the charitable beneficiary of the tournament. The school opened in September 2012 and, with the help of the community, now provides free education, dormitory and food for young people from underprivileged families in Dalian. All the proceeds raised at the tournament—over RMB 150,000—will be donated to supply a library and buy equipment for the school.
An award ceremony was held shortly after the tournament where Tsuyoshi and Xiaoguang Yang took First place, Matthew Smith and Richard Barwick took Second Place and Third place went to Michael Morbey and Steffen Wirth.
An auction was also held, where prizes included two tickets to singer Justin Bieber’s Dalian concert, one smartphone and one ultra-book computer which raised close to RMB 10,000. The raffle was also a big hit of the night, and raised over RMB 12,000 for the Hope Project. Thank you to our raffle sponsors who provided an additional set of tickets to see Justin Bieber, another smart phone and a tablet computer, overnight stays in hotels outside of Dalian, among many others. Activities such as “Shot to Win,” and “Best Wine Customer” were held to raise money for charity as well.
The Northeast China chapter would like to thank all of the sponsors of the event for their generous support. Our special thanks go to our Gold Sponsors: Intel, Goodyear, and Future Harvard International Kindergarten, as well as our Silver Sponsors: Café Copenhagen (who provided the fabulous buffet dinner for the participants), Shama Luxe Grand Central, PwC, Austen Morris Associates, DKIA, and Zhicheng Construction.
