Austen Morris Associates Private Client Dinner and Riedel Wine Glass Tasting 165 120 AMA Team

Who would have thought the shape of a wine glass could make such a difference to the taste of the wine?
At our most recent Austen Morris Associates Private Client Dinner, we teamed up with Riedel Crystal to provide a wine tasting experience with a difference. We wanted to experiment with glass shape as well as wine varietal. Our mission was to ascertain, through trial and error, which wine tasted best in which glass. (We knew it would be a dangerous and difficult assignment, but duty called, and someone had to do it.)
After much swilling, swishing and pouring of wines from one glass to the other, a verdict was finally reached; Under the professional guidance of Mark Baulderstone, Vice President of Riedel Crystal, we unanimously agreed that – yes – shape really does make a difference to the taste of the wine. After the tasting, which was held in the sumptuous new bar (simply called The Bar) in the Pudong Shangri-la’s new second tower, we moved upstairs to their extraordinary new restaurant, Yi Café.
Yi Café sent us on a whirlwind gastronomic tour of 7 different countries (see the menu to see what we ate). It was a fitting conclusion to an interesting and educational, as well as highly enjoyable, evening. It wasn’t all about wining and dining however, mention and thanks must be made to the generosity of our clients who helped us raise RMB1700 through an informal whip around for our favorite charity Gift of Life.
Our thanks go to the Pudong Shangri-la and ASC Fine Wines for their assistance in putting together this event, as well as to our clients who joined in the fun and made this a delightful evening for everyone.
