A portion of the funds raised by Chi Fan for Charity 2012, which included 55 of Shanghai’s best restaurants and generous guests, we were able to help sponsor a library donation through Heart to Heart Shanghai’s Library Project.
Heart to Heart Shanghai visited Lingquan Zhang Ying Ma Zhuang Primary School, in Anhui Provence for their library dedication ceremony on the morning of 2013 March 12. There was a contingent of people there to greet the Heart to Heart Volunteers including the local school board officials. Since it was raining lightly when the ceremony began, only a contingent of the school’s best students were outside with us for the speech. There were speeches by the headmaster, a school board official, and Heart to Heart Shanghai. Karen Carrington, the Executive Director of Heart to Heart Shanghai gave the speech. During the speeches, the 15,000 RMB donation money (from Heart to Heart, Lisa & Scott Slaney, and Chi Fan for Charity) was exchanged for the book listing and fapiaos. All volunteers were then allowed to go into the classrooms and other buildings to talk with the students and hand out small gifts to the students. (Around 50 large bags of school supplies, toiletries, clothes, toys, etc. were also donated to the school by Heart to Heart, the Dulwich DUCKS, and friends of H2H).
The school is a small red brick building built in 2005 with nine teachers and 205 students. There has been a state run school in existence on this site since the 1970’s however they house no overnight students. There was no preexisting library and therefore the donation was extremely well received.
