On October 10th Austen Morris Associates sponsored the Great American Hoedown 2015 hosted by the American Women’s Club of the Philippines (AWCP). As a gold sponsor, Austen Morris Associates made a big impact of this worthy cause while enjoying the evening at the Midas Hotel and Casino. The purpose of this evening of festivities was to raise funds for the Tukod Foundation’s Child’s Right to Play.
This project’s aim is to build a playground in Calauan, Laguna near the Southville Settlement, which is home approximately to 7,000 children who were displaced as a result of Typhoon Ondoy. This playground will be located in one hectare of private property managed by Fr. Salvador Pablo of the Don Bosco’s Salesian Order. Many parents from this settlement are forced to leave their children alone to pursue employment in Manila. As a result of the lack of adult protection, these vulnerable children are open to the high risk of sex trafficking and abuse from neighbors they do not know. The management of the playground and the location on land owned by the Salesian order ensures that the park will become a safe haven for the children where they are free to be children again.
With these children in mind, all of the proceeds from this year’s Hoedown will be donated to the Tukod Foundation and we hope that you will consider donating to this event to make the dream of the Child’s Right to Play a reality.
Senior Consultants, Matthew Arnold and Martyn Davies attended the event which featured a live band, a wild buccaneering mechanical bull, a silent auction, a raffle, and an expansive buffet highlighting classic American cuisine. Austen Morris Associates was very excited to be a part of this wonderful cause, and we wish all the best to people at AWCP in their work for the Laguna community.
